The aim of the research in the department is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that mediate synapse formation in the developing brain, and synaptic function and its plastic alteration in the mature brain. Our approach is oriented towards basic molecular and cellular neuroscience. However, in several cases our studies have converged with clinical and genetic studies, linking proteins that have been in the focus of our interest for many years to psychiatric and neurological diseases such as autism, schizophrenia, and Huntington's disease.

 

This Research Report summarizes relevant publications and projects of the Department of Molecular Neurobiology. It is intended to give the reader an overview of the conceptual background and scientific focus of the work performed in our group.
